This is without reservations the best American brandy. It is clearly a superior product to its main competetiors, the EJ products (from vs to xo), and the Korbel line as well. And hands down it is better than Hennessy vs. Now let's pretend this thing isn't ten dollars a bottle booze. Color amber of course. Taste not terribly complex, but pleasing, sweet anise and dark fruits dominate, but there is a caramel oakiness there too. Thick bodied, oily almost, slightly anised and just barely sweet. The sweet turns sour and woody, but unpleasntly, leaving a lingering anise/grape flavor echoing on your tongue for several minutes - if you don't take another sip.
